The Google I/O 2024, Google’s much-anticipated annual developer conference, is coming soon, with the event scheduled from May 14th to May 20th at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. This event boasts an array of revelations beginning with the keynote given by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, which will occur after informative sessions focusing on the latest updates that Google has brought about.
Rejoice, for the people who are eager to catch the action, the YouTube channel will be livestreaming practically all the keynotes and key sessions. Sundar Pichai’s keynote is slated to kick off at 10 am Pacific Time (10:30 pm Indian time).
I wonder if Google will share what is planned for us for this year.
Hardware Updates:
While Google’s keynotes at I/O generally center around software, hardware crowds will not go home empty-handed either with some news of their own. The Pixel 7a and the first-ever Pixel Fold were announced by Google last year. However, although the new Pixel 8a will be there for you on the show itself, rumors say the Pixel Fold 2 won’t be. Instead of the phone, there could be a teaser for the upcoming foldable device, maybe coming with the Pixel 9 family at the same time in September. Google could focus on the AI features of the Pixel 8a, demonstrating how it is integrated with Gemini AI.
Android 15 Unveiling:
Abounding in Android fans, celebrate! Google is projected to announce at I/O 2024 the release date as well as the new features coming in Android 15. Although it is not supposed to bring significant design changes, Android 15 could be the one that will introduce the new upgrades that are aimed at user privacy, productivity, and security. Some agreed features that will be included are satellite connectivity, audio sharing, notification cooldown, app archiving, and partial screen sharing.
Gemini AI Integration:
Google is likely to incorporate the Gemini AI technology into different applications such as Google Maps, Chrome, Gmail, and many others. The Gemini AI, a machine learning-based engine, may soon become the star performer in future Android devices, outshining Google Assistant. Besides, word has it that Pixel, the new Pixel-exclusive virtual assistant will debut running on the Gemini AI. This assistant would be multimodal and thus would offer users the possibility to interact via text, voice, and even images.
Wear OS 5 and Android TV Upgrades:
Wear OS, designed by Google to be the OS for their wearable devices, will be updated very soon with Wear OS 5. Limited information has been disclosed about the details, but new elements such as more versions of the Watch Face user interface and the support of more devices are in the works. Moreover, the Android TV improvement may be a priority as it will help to improve the user experience on different television platforms.
With anticipation for Google I/O 2024 already mounting up, tech fanatics and developers included are eager to find the breakthroughs of these innovations and ready to draw the path of the next technology and user experience evolution. Keep checking for upcoming posts and a deeper understanding of this exciting event coming soon!
Phone Wars 2.0? Will ARM’s AI Chips Challenge Apple and Nvidia Dominance?
Arm Holdings, a UK-based technology company owned by SoftBank Group, is ready to make its debut in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) chips. In a Nikkei Asia report, Arm was stated to be planning to unveil its AI chip family in 2025, the company revealed.
The company is going to build a separate AI chip unit which is estimated to be based on the prototype design in the spring of 2025. The mass production of these AI chips will be subcontracted to contract manufacturers, with the production scheduled to start in the autumn of 2025.
To cover the initial costs of advanced technology development, Arm itself will provide funds, some of which will be provided by SoftBank as well. The size could range from hundreds of billions of yen to the highest level.
Then, when the mass-production process is in full swing, the idea of spinning off the AI chip business and incorporating it under SoftBank’s roof is being considered. Unconfirmed reports indicate SoftBank is willing to negotiate with TSMC and other producers to make sure there is enough production capacity.
At the same time, no comment has been issued by both Arm and SoftBank on these developments, while TSMC has refused to answer interviewers’ questions yet.
Arm, known for its licensing of chip designs and revenue generation through royalties, has been looking for ways to expand into the data center market. This is an industry move that is not surprising for data-center operators, as they try to draw more on custom chips to speed up AI applications and lower the dependence on suppliers like Nvidia.
SoftBank, the parent company of Arm Holdings, might revealed to have a financial loss when the earnings report comes out. Nevertheless, the investors are very excited to hear about the new growth investments. By holding a large chunk of stock in Arm whose share value spiked in February due to the extreme hype of AI advancements, SoftBank is looking to benefit from the AI boom.
With Arm‘s AI chip ambitions in mind, this move could become a fundamental breakthrough in its evolution and maybe a turnaround point in the AI technology scene within the forecast minutes ahead.
Is AI the New Muse? User Creativity Soars After Embracing AI Tools
The use of AI tools among global knowledge workers has increased dramatically, nearly doubling in six months, according to the “2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report” conducted jointly by Microsoft and LinkedIn.
The report reveals how employees are increasingly using AI personal tools against a background of employees, who are unable to adapt to current fast-paced and demanding workplace dynamics. Nevertheless, senior management including some CEOs, are aware of the importance of AI in helping companies reach their goals, but many of them do not have a well-articulated strategy that clearly depicts how AI results in concrete results.
The fact that the potential advantages of AI are already well-known, while the pressure to show the immediate returns on investment has slowed some leaders from fully embracing AI integration.
The survey within the report draws attention to the creation of jobs because AI adoption benefits 90% of users, 85% of whom can now prioritize important tasks, and 84% of which directly leads to an increase in creativity. In addition, 83% mentioned that they felt more pleased to be employees after AI tools implementation.
Surprisingly, the AI implementation is not age-specific, as people from all generations are ready to accept AI tools. Gen Z blazes the trail, at 85%, then Millennials, at 78%, and lastly, Gen X having 76%.
While the job discontinuation concerns are taken into account, the insights provided are more comprehensive. While some workers are afraid of being replaced by machines, the same number of people are considering career changes because they have found better job opportunities.
Employers tend to see artificial intelligence as the number one thing; they have admitted that they will hire candidates who have these skills over candidates who do not. The trend is evident in recruitment processes where employers demand candidates with AI skills, however, less experience than the ones who possess none but have more experience.
In the end, the report states that AI not only improves productivity and creativity but also gives job seekers a competitive edge. Following AI’s inbuilt traits for future work, firms that are aligning AI into their processes are the ones that are likely to sustain the changing economic conditions.
