DryRun Security, a Texas-based startup specializing in AI-powered application security (AppSec), has raised $8.7 million in seed funding led by LiveOak Ventures, with participation from Cannage Capital. The funding will fuel the company’s engineering growth and expand its Go-To-Market (GTM) strategy.
Addressing AppSec Challenges:
As businesses manage increasing volumes of code, AppSec teams struggle to pinpoint security risks amid growing backlogs and outdated code scanning tools. DryRun Security’s innovative approach finds critical vulnerabilities—” the needle in the haystack” – to identify unknown risks before they escalate.
Innovative Solutions:
Co-founded in 2023 by AppSec veterans James Wickett and Ken Johnson, DryRun Security introduces Contextual Security Analysis (CSA) and Natural Language Code Policies (NLCP).
- CSA: Combines static, change, and application contexts for real-time risk detection tailored to DevOps practices.
- NLCP: Simplifies security policy creation by allowing teams to define policies in intuitive, natural language, eliminating the need for custom rule writing.
Early Success and Market Impact:
“DryRun Security is a true leap forward in application security,” said Creighton Hicks, Partner at LiveOak Ventures. The AI-driven platform goes beyond syntax analysis to understand risks based on code context and behavior, ensuring seamless integration into developers’ workflows.
The tool has already shown results for early adopters. Gary Gonzalez, CTO at PlanetArt, shared: “The GitHub integration delivers precise, instant feedback, enabling our developers to fix security issues without disruption. It has improved security and fostered a culture of security within our team.”
DryRun Security’s groundbreaking technology is setting new standards for modern, scalable application security, aligning seamlessly with the fast-paced demands of today’s software development.
