Jammu and Kashmir Police have introduced a facial recognition technology powered by AI in the Ramban district for the safety of a tunnel in the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The company from Chennai has developed this optical system which employs smart CCTV cameras connected to a server that features the images of terrorists, their accomplices, and other illegal elements. When cars move by, the cameras read the faces of the occupants and set off an alarm if a matching database is spotted.
The initiative was initially introduced in Thathri, Kishtwar district, last December and this was the first time the technology was used in the region. This Navayuga plaza checkpoint in Banihal, Ramban, is the second installation of this type of system that has been introduced in Jammu & Kashmir.
According to Ramban SSP Anuj Kumar, the AI-driven system is one of the key elements of the smart policing system that the police force is putting in place. Before the introduction of NAKSHATA, the video footage from CCTV cameras that were spread across the Union Territory had to be viewed manually by the patrolling officers. Now that state-of-the-art technology is being used, law enforcement can do this task of threat identification more efficiently and as a result, maintaining public safety is more a common thing.
After having successfully tested this facial recognition system in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the expansion of this security measure across the region is the next plan on the agenda.
Can AI Summarize the News Better Than Humans? X launches Stories on X, Delivering News Summarized by Grok AI
The latest development of X, the old Twitter platform, featured a new option called The Stories, which is created by a chatbot called GROK, which specialized in condensing and summarizing the latest news. They have this introduced in X Explore which is tailor-made and offers individual news stories for the users. Now, premium users of new update X will have access to these formats, which will be a company outline for each trending story appearing in Explore’s For You dashboard.
The customized page in Exploring News presents the most amongst-people topics influenced by the news device within your social network, along with other recommended content. For users, it is an easy tool to use to stay updated on what’s going on in their world without being a visual pest.
If someone still has doubts about whether to check it or not, the new feature of a short description of everything made it possible. The goal is that these digests offer not only a brief statement of the general subjects but also the fundamental ideas of the trending topics. Nevertheless, its outputs could be sometimes inaccurate, so Grok does not fully prevent its customers from verifying information.
Sprinkling a new concept of summarizing news trends is not new; however, Grok’s Stories hiring at X makes it XIV. Unlike in the previous open annotation by Twitter, Grok surprisingly creates abstracts for each of the top news displayed on your main feed.
Having a Subscription to Grok is a way to reward users who want to support the service by upgrading to a premium subscription. The company provides Grok account plans with a starting price of $8 per month which, in turn, imposes time-linked access to the X data.
According to the journalist and tech expert Alex Kantrowitz, the finalized summaries will mainly concentrate on X which is also a conversation regarding the article texts. Fine, it is apparent that this approach is obviously challenging in portraying the content of news deeply, however, there is even the possibility for higher engagement because users may try to seek the source material.
We see AI-powered news summaries to be the breakthrough of the current market, and there are many startups such as Arc and Particle appearing. As a result, this phenomenon can be seen not only to be a threat to traffic for so-called ‘traditional news sites’, but also for some of the publishers to partner with the AI solution providers to maintain their relevance.
Different from other platforms, which develop this function in collaboration with media companies through licensing agreements, In X’s case, the news content transformation is based entirely on users’ conversations, and there is no need to partner with the news companies. However, although this solution brings innovation and fresh ideas, there exist particular risks, such as fallacious information.
Grok‘s Stories has released its threads for the base Premium X plan. This addition will make it easier to follow the latest trends on the platform.
